Pay Attention to the Job You’re Trying To Get

I’m chatting online with a friend right now and he told me a funny story. He is a graphic designer who has been trying to get into doing more web design work. He was really excited the last time that we chatted because he had just gotten a job with what he thought was a Tampa website design company.
He was excited all the way up until he got his first assignment from the company. They had assigned him to do a series of tasks. These tasks included a social networking campaign and linkbaiting through the company’s blog. He has no experience with this type of work and didn’t know why the company had sent these tasks to him. He asked and that was when he found out that he was working for a Tampa website development company not a website design company! Web development and web design are very different things.
The lesson he learned was that you should look really carefully at the jobs that you’re applying to get. He had sent out so many applications that he’d stopped paying enough attention to what he was doing. You have to wonder if that’s what happened with the company, too. After all, they knew that they needed web development services and he doesn’t even have any experience with that!
