Tailor Resumes to the Job You Want

The biggest mistake that people make with their resumes is to fail to proofread them. The second biggest mistake that people make is to use the same resume for every job application. You should always make sure to tailor your resume to the specific job that you are applying for.
A lot of people think that they can use the same resume for every application if they are applying for the same types of jobs. However, this isn’t true. You should always read the job ad carefully and tailor your resume to reflect your skills with the qualities in the ad.
Let’s say that you’re interested in getting a job as a receptionist. You might apply to work with a computer data storage company, a hair salon and a bookstore. You could use the same resume for all of these since all of the jobs will require answering phones and filing papers. However, you should instead tailor the resume to the job. Mention your experience with FTP storage in the computer application and your love of hairstyling or books in the other jobs.
Tailoring your resume to the job shows that you actually care about getting this job. It’s going that extra little mile that’s going to get you hired somewhere. Oh, and of course you should proofread your new resume before sending it in!
