Telling People You Attend Photography School

Acceptance into a creative degree program is a thrilling experience. Whether you choose to explore the Interior Design degree programs at the International Academy of Design and Technology in Sacramento or to get an MFA degree from a leading university, that acceptance letter is going to make you feel as though you are one step closer to achieving the dream of finding a career that you’ll love.

Unfortunately, not everyone you meet is going to feel the same way about your choice. In fact, the people who are supposed to love and support you may seem like they’re doing exactly the opposite when you tell them that you’re going to a creative school such as photography school. The thing to keep in mind is that these people probably don’t mean to be unsupportive.

The most common negative response that you’ll get from loved ones who find out that you’re attending an art school is concern that you won’t be able to get a "real job". Parents and other well-intentioned family members just don’t want you to pay thousands of dollars to attend a creative school only to be unable to find work after graduation. This is a fear that’s been ingrained into them since they were young.

However, these days, there are many lucrative career options for people graduating from creative programs. Every aspect of the art world is in some way related to the Internet which is a booming and growing industry. Point this out to the family members that are being unsupportive and you might find that they change their minds. If they don’t, just remember that you’re the one going to school, not them.
