Financial Aid for a Culinary Arts Degree

A culinary arts degree has become a necessity for launching a culinary career, but unfortunately, these things don’t pay for themselves!  If you are trying to figure out how you’ll afford the degree you need, here are some types of financial aid that you can find.

  • Scholarships – You may be able to get enough scholarships to pay for part or all of your education.  There are a number of sites online where you can search for scholarship; some culinary cooking schools may also offer scholarships.
  • Grants – Like scholarships, grants are free money that you don’t have to repay.  Whereas scholarships can be seen as more contest-like, grants or subsidies are usually awarded to students who meet a certain criteria — i.e. income level, first college-goer in their family, etc.
  • Student loans – If you can’t get any scholarships or grants, you don’t have to give up on your dream.  You can get student loans to cover the expenses of your culinary training.  These loans usually don’t need to be paid back until after graduation, giving you time to get your degree and get settled in your career before you have to start making payments.

As you can see, even if you don’t have the money for school, formal culinary training is still a very real possibility for you.  Make sure you explore all of your options for financial aid, and you shouldn’t have any problems getting your culinary arts degree.
