Make Your Own Greeting Cards

Store-bought greeting cards can be really canned. One of my favorite ways to show someone I really care is to make my own greeting cards for them. Here are some tips for making your own greeting cards.
- Don’t try to be too fancy. For instance, for a friend’s baby shower, I folded a piece of cardstock once to make a card, then drew a family of stick figures with crayons. On the inside, I wrote, "Pretty soon your fridge will be covered with these!" My friend’s husband gave me a really weird look when he saw the front of the card, but the inside made my friend laugh.
- Think texture. Cut paper makes for a great texturized look.
- Use a paper cutter for the cleanest lines. You can find pretty affordable guillotine cutters and rotary trimmers at discount stores and online.
- Use several colors, but not too many. Too many colors will cause your card to appear chaotic. Stick with a maximum of three or four for the best results.
- Think outside the box. When you make handmade greeting cards, you can literally do anything that you think of. Just have fun and let your imagination run wild!
