I am concerned about my old college roommate who has been married for three years.  When I say old, I mean previous; she is only twenty-five years old.  My concern does not lie in her age but in her health or more specifically, her choice in the past to avoid good health. 

Janet smoked for the last two years of college and she has not stopped until now.  I have always been concerned and upset with nicotine habit and my worry has escalated since she recently discovered she is pregnant.  We had lunch on Thursday and then walked by a store that sells discount crib bedding.  It was in front of the retail store where she broke down crying.  She says she has not smoked since finding out but she is worried about the weeks she smoked prior to discovering her pregnancy.  I said we could go in and look at baby bedding now and save the worrying for later.  We can’t fix the past, just deal with the future.

We browsed around and discussed the merits of cloth baby diapers and didn’t discuss cigarettes again that day.  I advised against worrying but I admit here and now, I am very concerned.  I want her to have a healthy pregnancy and I want that baby to have a great start on life.
