Pregnancy: Do You Love It or Hate It?

Most mothers I’ve talked to have either loved being pregnant, or flat-out hated it.  There doesn’t seem to be much of an in-between.  Some women thrive on pregnancy, while others are completely frickin’ miserable for the whole nine months.

For example, my sister-in-law always hated how she looked when she was pregnant, and hid beneath her husband’s T-shirts and pajama pants the entire time.  On the other hand, a good friend of mine was totally proud of her little belly, and gloried in wearing positively adorable maternity dresses and flowy, feminine tops.

Some women also carry the extra weight better than others.  I’ve seen women who waddle like a fat Christmas goose, and others who are athletic and active and don’t seem slowed down at all by the extra weight they are carrying.  In general I think this part has to do with how active you were to begin with, but I know that some women have a really difficult time staying active when they are pregnant.

I have always wondered how much of this has to do with your outlook and your attitude toward pregnancy.  If you think of it as a trial that you just have to get through, you’re probably not going to ever be the kind of woman who seems to glow when she’s pregnant.  And vice versa, if you are really excited and optimistic about being pregnant, you are probably much more resilient to the morning sickness, moods, and other things that make some women miserable.

Do you or did you love being pregnant, or hate it?  What’s your story?
