I see work trucks on the road all the time now. Many are startup or home-based businesses — I can always tell because often the truck isn’t in as good shape. Sometimes it’s really old, and it usually doesn’t have all the same truck accessories that you expect to see on a professional work truck.
Unfortunately, this screams out a lack of professionalism to all your customers. If you are starting your own contractor business, don’t make the same mistake with your work truck. Here are a couple of things you might need.
- A truck bedliner to protect the bed if you are using a pickup truck. Hauling stuff in your bed will quickly scratch through your paint, not only looking crappy but also leaving the bed vulnerable to rust. You have two basic choices for bed liners — tough spray coating, or custom molded heavy-duty plastic liners.
- A ladder rack to help you haul stuff more easily in your bed. Go Rhino is a popular brand for racks, among other things. For instance, their QuickRack is easy to install and provides a safe way to haul materials and equipment.
- Truck boxes or tool boxes for storing tools safely in the bed without having to worry about them being stolen. A truck’s cab is only so big, and can’t be counted on to provide enough storage room, but truck boxes help you turn your bed space into secure storage space!
Having a nice, properly outfitted work truck demonstrates your professionalism and reflects on your ability to get the job done right. Don’t skimp on this important aspect of your business!

There are many new ways to dispose of personal information and documents today and there are even companies that offer a mobile document destruction service to homeowners and businesses. These document destruction companies will come to your house and chop and grate your personal information for you. They bring the shredder to you and are convenient, safe and secure.
Deciding on the type of paper shredder that you use will depend on what you will be shredding and the amount of shredding to be done. Large companies even use disintegrators to purge their personal information. A disintegrator, such as the Dahle shredder, is extremely heavy-duty and shreds much more than just paper. It is able to chop many kinds of media like CD’s, audio and video tapes, floppy disks and DVD’s.
Commercial paper shredders are an option with a high volume capacity for large departments and offices. These types of shredders go to a security level 4, but for the higher security levels of 5 or 6, you will need to get a high security shredder, like the destroyit shredder. Industrial shredders can handle such materials as cardboard, metal and plastic; they can even turn the cardboard into a sort of packing material.Using a document destruction service is easy because of the mobility, but a home shredder is suitable for purging most documents.

A local landscaping company was hired to fix up the soil around the town shopping center. The town was looking to fix up areas designated for planting trees. Those sections, around the parking lot and property perimeter, had never been fully taken care of. When the town tried to plant trees, they wouldn’t survive. Some of the soil samples though, were known to support certain types of trees, so the logical choice was to use a portable screening plant. Now, the best soil could be isolated and filled in as the top layer, so the trees that were desired could grow. This is nothing a gravel screener couldn’t handle, so the company got to work and sifted out the larger rocks from the soil.
With the proper soil already on site isolated, the larger-grained material and rocks were shipped away, either offsite or for use in a different landscaping setting on the premises. The use of these machines from EZ Screen had allowed cost savings not only from the efficiency of the machines, but from the use of materials that were already at the site, which didn’t have to be found and/or purchased elsewhere.
