For the Love of My Car

I have been a huge fan of cars ever since I can remember. I loved looking at fast cars and they were always a thing of beauty to me. The car that I loved the most was the Corvette and I promised myself that one day I would own one.
My first car, a Ford Taurus, was a far cry from the Corvette, but it was what I could afford at the time and I really just needed something to get me to and from school and work. Instead of going to college after high school, I decided to work two full time jobs. That way I could save money for college and buy a Corvette.
When I got the car, it was one of the happiest days of my life. I was living in an apartment with on the street parking, so I rented a self storage unit to keep my car in. There was no way I was leaving it out for the elements and the riffraff to hurt.
I loved that car nearly as much as I loved my family and I babied it in every way imaginable. Looking back, I didn’t drive it as much as I should have, as I was always concerned that someone might ding it or that it would, heaven forbid, get dirty.
I eventually sold it to go back to school, but the memories I have of it are so worth it. The people down at Allen storage certainly knew me by name and they seemed to understand my love for my car. I am now married with two kids and drive a sensible minivan, but one day…who knows?

I have a neighbor that owns a firebird from the smokey and bandit days. He has owned it since he was in high school and he works on it almost every weekend. I don’t think he drives it anymore, but he still babies it!
