Would a New Baby Be Scared of the Lights?

We all know that you’re supposed to stimulate a newborn with distinct shapes and varied colors as well as textures and music. And we’ve all seen the soft lighting that’s sold for their rooms. But has anyone tried either rope lights or Christmas tree lights in the room?
I’d love to hear an opinion on this because I think it would be beautiful. My baby was born just before Christmas, and he loved looking at the tree. But maybe invading his room with lights would just muddy his perspective and ruin his circadian rhythms. We all have some light near our newborn, though, if only just to have light by which to change those night time diapers.
Is there a baby expert out there that wants to weigh in on this? Even if I wasn’t expecting a baby, I’d love to hear the conventional wisdom on putting twinkly lights in your child’s room. Hey, maybe pretty lights will have the same effect on intelligence as those Baby Mozart cd’s! But on the other hand, I don’t want to ruin his knowledge of darkness and deep deep sleep. He might grow up needing to have a rave going on next door to even go to sleep!
