An Odd Habit of Collecting
By Buff on Dec 19, 2008 in Technology
Industrial equipment isn’t generally found around the house. Some people, like Bobby Benton, collected some of this stuff since he was a kid. Small things, like light-duty pumps, valves, meters, and a few unit mass flow controllers. Sometimes, he’d take them apart to see how they worked. In other instances, he found a way to blend them in with the décor of the room. Very odd, some would say, but most would agree that this was quite a different way of furnishing a home.
At 33, Bobby still was interested in these things, and took his own flow meters with him when he and his wife, Kimberly, bought a new house. There were bills to pay, so snatching up an ultramodern ultrasonic open channel flowmeter was out of the question. With young kids around, it wasn’t proper to keep industrial devices around the house, or even safe, so Bobby had a room in the basement. This held his entire collection, and there wasn’t much room for more. All he could really hope for was the chance to build an extension of the house, but with their budget being as tight as it was, that wasn’t going to happen for a while.
