Kite Aerial Photography Equipment

There are some businesses that use advanced technology and photogrammetry to take amazing aerial photos. That’s fine and dandy but it doesn’t suit the amateur photographer who only has a small budget to commit to learning aerial photography. For folks in that position, the type of photography to look into is called Kite Aerial Photography.

As you might expect, this type of photography involves strapping your camera to a kite and sending it up in the air to take some photos. Here is some of the equipment you would need to do this type of art:

  • Kite. You’ll ultimately probably want more than one kite for different types of pictures but start with a basic photography kite.
  • Camera. A good digital camera that you’re willing to take some risks with is what you’ll need here.
  • Suspension set. The camera has to hang from the kite in a stable and safe way so that it doesn’t wobble or get damaged.
  • Radio control and batteries. You’ll attach this to the kite to control it better.
  • Extras and a bag to carry them in. You may want lenses, camera tools or other goodies along the way.

The art of taking pictures from a kite isn’t cheap compared to taking photos from the ground. However, it’s a lot cheaper than trying to learn to do aerial photography from a helicopter. Consider your options and invest what you can.
