Tucson Hosts Steampunk Fest

The town of Tucson has a very broad appeal. Anyone who’s interested in any aspect of the old west can find themselves right at home here, where so much of the wild west history happened. It’s also a great spot for young people looking to paint the town red, with clubs and pubs that serve high culture and counterculture alike. It’s an artist’s haven, and it’s also a gem hunter’s dream, with excellent luxury Tucson hotels to take care of every traveler’s needs. In March, it becomes a gathering place for Steampunk aficionados.

Steampunk may not be a word in most people’s vocabulary, being a sub-sub genre of science fiction that’s become a pretty recent phenomenon. However, anyone with an interest in the wild west, and/or technology, the Victorian era, or any element of punk or even goth culture, will find something rather compelling here.

Called the Wild Wild West Steampunk Convention , there’s a world that gets created for 3 days at Tucson’s famous Old Tuscon studios . This has been a favorite tourist attraction since the 1930s, and has been the set for many great western films.

It’s also been a lively attraction and theme park in it own rite, drawing adults and children for a fun day of rides and live historical re-enactments. Cowboys shooting each other and falling from roofs into old wooden bathtubs are a common sight here.

It truly is the perfect setting for a Steampunk festival. Steampunk is most easily associated with the famous tv show, Wild Wild West , which exemplifies the blend of sci-fi and history. The genre is actually a subcategory of Cyberpunk, the science fiction that William Gibson was famous for, mixing culture and fantasy together in a very unusual and eclectic way.

There are all sorts of interesting people that make up the city of Tucson, and this convention is a way of getting to know more of the people that populate worlds with gusto.
