What to Look for in a New England B&B

Are you thinking about staying at a New England B&B?  I highly recommend the experience, but you need to know what to look for.  Here are some ideas.

  1. Small size.  You definitely want the experience of a small bed and breakfast.  For instance, there are plenty of Connecticut inns, but what you really want is someplace that will be small enough that you don’t feel like you’re sharing your vacation with a bunch of strangers.
  2. Quiet, quaint atmosphere.  A good B&B is decorated so that it feels like a quiet little getaway.
  3. Lots of great sights to see.  For instance, a Maine bed and breakfast is great because of the gorgeous scenery, while someplace more historical (such as Boston) is good for the history lover.
  4. Great food.  Half the point of a B&B is to get a great breakfast.  The meal should be cooked with culinary flare, and a good small B&B can take special requests or pay close attention to allergies.
  5. Plenty of ways to relax.  Whether you are eating a delicious breakfast, enjoying the local attractions, or soaking in a clawfoot tub, you want to be able to fully enjoy the opportunity to relax!

Remember, the goal of staying at a bed and breakfast is to enjoy yourself and relax in ways that you couldn’t at a regular hotel, so make sure everything about your chosen destination will support that goal!
